As expected, it has been a very different year.  My teaching in Lae went very well.  My class was composed of 34 students with a wide range of academic abilities.  There was a doctor, an engineer and several managers on one side of the classroom, and on the other side were those living in settlements with minimal education.  All were serving the Lord in their churches in Lae.  It was a great experience and I received a lot of positive feedback.   They have asked me to return April - June next year.  So I may be teaching at CLTC’s main campus near Mt Hagen from January to April and in Lae from the middle of April until June.

You didn’t know that I was a librarian, did you?  One reality on the mission field is that many missionaries wear multiple hats – whether they are trained for them or not.  Because of health issues, Ukarumpa’s librarian cannot work full-time, so the school depends on volunteers to keep the library open.  Every Wednesday morning I’m at the desk looking very official.  OK – I'm not REALLY official, but I do know how to unlock the doors, turn on all the computers, check books in and out, and return books to the shelves. Aren’t you impressed?

Ukarumpa is not so foreign to me anymore, but I still LOVED the last weekend in November when Patrick, Karis, and I were able to go to CLTC’s graduation.    I am looking forward to our month there over Christmas!

This term has been pretty busy for me.  I played basketball, was involved with the student representative council  (SRC) and I was busy with a couple of AP classes as well.  This term we  had our annual Carnival that SRC is in charge of organizing.  It took a lot of time and effort by many people, but in the end it was a success.  We raised 8000 kina (US$ 4000) - half of which will go to our school and half to a hospital in Lae.  This picture is of me working in the prize- giving booth.

At the end of the last break the high schoolers went on “Encounter” - which is a spiritual retreat.  We went to a place called Camp Interface.   As you can see from the picture, the guys (and some of the girls) had the job of pushing the cars up a few hills at the very end of the trip.   In good weather it takes 15 minutes to drive the last 3 miles.  It took us about two hours to get through, but I’m not complaining.  It was actually pretty fun.   I didn’t get much sleep those four nights of the retreat, but it was great anyway.

(P.S.  Can you find Benjamin in the picture?)

In this picture I’m with my 5th and 6th  grade basketball team. Starting with the right is Gi-yeon, Isaac, Isaac, Luke, Amaechi, Roger, Sam, Zach, and then me. We had just finished playing the B-team girls (7th - 9th  grade) and had won the game! Every Sunday our coach, Mr. Bruner, teaches us new skills and at the end we play a short game. I’m usually the only girl that goes on Sundays, and I am one of the tallest, other than Sam and Zach who are twins.
